            <description>The WCSD Parent Involvement Council committees&amp;nbsp;are at the heart of the work of the Council and&amp;nbsp;the partnership with the District.&amp;nbsp;The Council's current committees are:AssessmentThe Assessment committee's&amp;nbsp;overall goal is&amp;nbsp;to continously collect data on parent&amp;nbsp;involvement&amp;nbsp;to support our schools in improving their efforts to engage&amp;nbsp;and partner with parents in the education of their children.&amp;nbsp; The&amp;nbsp;committee&amp;nbsp;is currently working in partnership with the Office of School Improvement and many other district departments on a school site rubric for parent involvement.&amp;nbsp; The rubric will provide descriptive&amp;nbsp;measures of a school's efforts to engage parents at an exemplary, median and&amp;nbsp;inadequate school.&amp;nbsp; The rubric will be piloted during the 2009-2010 school year as part of the school improvement process and is also fulfilling action steps for the District's Blueprint for Success.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;The committee is also working on a follow-up survey to the 2008 WCSD Parent Involvement Needs Assessment.&amp;nbsp;Family Friendly SchoolsThe Family Friendly Schools committee is&amp;nbsp;charged with helping&amp;nbsp;all schools in&amp;nbsp;WCSD to&amp;nbsp;create an&amp;nbsp;environment where every family feels welcome and included in their child's education.&amp;nbsp;As one of the first committees and&amp;nbsp;beginning initiatives&amp;nbsp;of the PIC, the Family Friendly Schools committee&amp;nbsp;developed the FFS Self-Assessment Guide for schools.&amp;nbsp; The committee is currently providing Family Friendly walk-throughs and reports&amp;nbsp;to schools who would like a confidential, objective assessment of their school's physical enviornment and welcoming atmosphere.&amp;nbsp;Flyer for walk-throughsRubric for walk-throughsAdditional Resource for &amp;quot;How to Create A Family Friendly School&amp;quot;Parent Training &amp;amp; InclusivityThe Parent Training &amp;amp; Inclusivity (PTI)&amp;nbsp;committee works on programs and initiatives that help schools to be inclusive of all families and parents to understand the educational system.&amp;nbsp; The PTI committee&amp;nbsp;is currently partnering with the Diversity Office to bring the Study Circles program from Montgomery County Public Schools to WCSD.&amp;nbsp; The program will be implemented at several schools during the 2009-2010 school year.&amp;nbsp;The PTI is also providing training for parents and parent leaders to help&amp;nbsp;all parents understand the high school graduation requirements.&amp;nbsp;WCSD Graduation Rates Data - EnglishWCSD Graduation Rates Data - SpanishWCSD Graduation Requirements - EnglishWCSD Graduation Requirements - SpanishProfessional DevelopmentThe&amp;nbsp;Professional Development (PD)&amp;nbsp;committee partners with District staff and departments to support all school staff to have the knowledge and skills needed to work in partnership with families.&amp;nbsp; The PD committee is&amp;nbsp;currently working on parent involvement modules&amp;nbsp;for administrators to discuss current and best practices on working&amp;nbsp;with families.&amp;nbsp; The modules will be implemented during the 2009-2010 school year.&amp;nbsp;Download Documents from Module 1-2:ScriptFacilitator_QuestionsPowerPointSchool_DescriptionsResearch-based_Best_PracticesResearch-based_Best_Practices-blankmodelArticleEvaluationDownload Documents from Module 3:ScriptPowerPointBest-Practices-HandoutBuild_Staff_Capacity-10_TipsEvaluation&amp;nbsp;Other Committees&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;Other&amp;nbsp;WCSD PIC committees include Executive, Nominating and By-laws.&amp;nbsp; These committees meet at different times of the year to address the business and mission of the Council.&amp;nbsp;Learn more about the WCSD PIC's accomplishments during the 2009-2010 school year.&amp;nbsp;</description>
